News - "the plague of the 21st century"
Insulin resistance (aka syndrome X or metabolic syndrome) is a subject much talked about at the moment. this is because it is linked to many 'modern' degenerative conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, obesity, unbalanced cholesterol, Altzheimer's and benign and malignant growths.
What is Insulin Resistance? Insulin resistance is a condition in which the mechanisms by which insulin normally binds with cells to allow them to take in nutrients, breaks down, and the cells become resistant to insulin.
This means that both the insulin and the nutrients, such as glucose, remain in circulation for longer than they should resulting in many problems.
There are several main underlying causes of this growing problem:-
0 The modern diet - much too much carbohydrate. This makes constant demand on our metabolic processes, causing essential nutrients, such as magnesium, chromium and B vitamins, to be depleted.
0 Lack of exercise, causing loss of muscle tone, means that our energy requirements are much lower than formerly.
0 The quality of modern foods - even apparently healthy food, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, can be very deficient in essential nutrients as they are grown in mineral depleted soils and often stored for long periods of time.
Typical early symptoms include:-
0 Abdominal obesity (apple rather than pear shape)
0 High triglycerides - which may show up on cholesterol tests.
0 Anxiety and lack of mental clarity.
How can this be treated?
Although it requires some hard work, treatment can be very successful indeed
"not only have my symptoms gone, but I feel healthier than I can ever remember feeling before"
A combination of dietary changes, nutritional supplements and gentle exercise will help you successfully overcome Insulin Resistance without being plagued by hunger or constant cravings.
